Shattered Dreams, Broken Pieces, was born. Through the power of reinvention, Walton got her new lease on life. She began working thousands of hours with other amputees, receiving national recognition from the National Disability Institute, and was featured on C-SPAN for what would become her community-building projects surrounding the beauty of being a black woman with a disability; and Donna has taken refuge remembering that life is not how you survive the storm but more how you dance in the rain. It’s all of those components of her life that she would ultimately document and begin to put into her acclaimed book.

Finally, Shattered Dreams, Broken Pieces is part personal, cathartic release for her struggles with cancer, the new once feared limits she had to work with, as well as both supporters, and tormentors who would help her and reject the version of Donna she was trying to become and that came to antagonize, along the way.
